Landmark Files FOIA With Environmental Protection Agency Seeking Records Relating To Non-Profit Grants

Mar 7, 2025 | Investigations

Landmark Legal Foundation (Landmark) submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) seeking agency records relating to billions in grants awarded to non-profit organizations at the end of the Biden administration.

In 2024, EPA awarded billions in federal grants to new non-profit organizations. Many of these groups are operated by officials who have previously served in government roles, including in the Biden administration. Landmark is seeking agency records that will provide details surrounding the circumstances under which EPA awarded these grants.

Included in its request are records relating to the $6.97 billion award to the Climate United Fund, records relating to the $5 billion award to the Coalition for Green Capital, the $2 billion award to Power Forward Communities, Inc., and $940 million award to Justice Climate Fund, Inc. Landmark is seeking communications between EPA officials and senior management of these respective entities.

Landmark is also seeking copies of grant applications and cover letters associated with these grants.
